My dad has allergies around cats. We want a cat that wouldn't cause him to get a bad allergic reaction around it. What cat would work? Thanks

That's a hard one RunningEagleRuns. The only option would be the hairless cat, although some people don't find them very attractive lol. I hope you all can find a solution.

Thanks. I hear females with light hair color tend to be better then others.

We had a white haired cat and she shed like crazy. I heard that too but I don't know if it's true. I did some research and it said the Sphynx and Devon Rex are the least allergenic but they're very expensive. All cats will produce some allergic reactions - it's the dander(skin cells) and saliva that causes the reaction.

Surprisingly, my Maine Coon didn't shed hardly at all. I'm not sure if that's normal because he had FIV so that could have been due to his immune disorder.

My bengal doesn't shed too much either. As far as dander though, I agree that hairless would be your best bet. However, every cat is different.

Have you thought about an allergy shot? My mom is a huge animal lover. She has basically adopted 2 of my cats and my dog and my step-dad is allergic to both so he gets an allergy shot like once a month I think and he is fine around all of them.
