My cat is generally very well behaved (well...), but lately he's taking to chewing on my internet antenna whenever I'm not looking! He chews it to such a degree that it will no longer work and I have to keep replacing antennas! Any ideas on how to make him stop??

Oh wow - I had the same problem except much worse. You can go to the pet store and ask for a bitter spray - problem is you have to keep applying this. If he's only chewing this wire you could try wrapping it in a crumbled up aluminum foil - make it thick/ not smooth so it will be unappealing.

My husband spontaneously brought home 2 cats from a customer who said she was taking her daughters cats therefore didn't have room. I realized after a month that I feel she was deceiving us and had the same problem. We hung on for several months because my 9 yr wanted them. They destroyed countless wires like a TV, completely gnawed a microphone wire off, stereo antenna, computer speakers, an IPod docker, the cord to the electric piano and was tirelessly working on the portable heater/air conditioner in the sunroom lol. It got to the point where we couldn't keep them - just were destroying too many expensive items. The cats weren't bored because they had many toys and each other. My husband returned the cats back to the lady with the bag of broken electronics and chewed wires.

You can also ask at the pet store if they have accordian wire covers that you can slide on. Good luck and I hope you find a solution. Since I have 2 girls it would have been a hefty job to cover all the countless wire in my house. I feel a bit guilty but at least they went back to the previous owner. Its funny the lady typed out a 3 page history of the cat likes and habits but failed to mention the wire problem.

Wow!! I guess I'm lucky! He's just chewing on the one antenna. I guess because it looks soft and appealing. We don't have any trouble with him chewing anything else he isn't supposed to.

I wonder why these cats had such an interest in wires and things. Maybe no one taught them not to when they were little. I think its sad when people raise pets, but don't try to teach them any sort of manners. Then they decide they don't want them and wonder why no one else does!

Yes I agree and they were full grown cats already set in their ways. They also didn't lke my dog Bella even though we tried so many times to socialize them - they kept hitting her on the nose. We're very patient and love animals but we truly couldn't afford the destruction and replacing what they ruined. I hope you figure out a solution and you're lucky he's not chewing other things.

Oh, yeah, I didn't mean to imply that you'd done anything wrong. I was more talking about how maybe their previous owners hadn't given them proper attention before they were set in their ways. But thanks.

Oh don't worry at all Stoney - I know you weren't saying that. I honestly never heard of cats chewing wires before. I thought just puppies and rabbits did that. Usually I don't think of cats being the chewing type of animal like dogs are. I was so stunned at how many electric items they ruined and I thought if an animal chews on a wire that's plugged in, they would get shocked and die.....I don't know if that's a myth or true....if that's the case they're one lucky pair of cats LOL. Nice talking to you and I hope one of solutions works for you.

my cat is 2yrs now and she has always chewed wires, i have lost a number of phone chargers and headphones because she has chewed them in half. she did it a lot when she was little and seemed to grow out of it but recently she has started again it's so annoying but i don't seem to be able to stop her and she is my everything so there is no chance of me giving her away so i guess i just have to put up with it. i know she's not bored because i am home with her most of the time to play with her and stuff i think she just does it because she can

Yeah. I think he's grown bored with chewing on my antenna now. I put hot sauce on it so now he just smells it and walks off. But I definitely couldn't get rid of him. I was gone all day the other day and I guess he got bored and tore out the screen in the window and roamed around the city I lived in. When I wasn't given my usual greeting at the door, I was quite upset! I was all up in peoples backyards at like 2am looking for him, haha! But I found him.

Im a cat person.

You can use toilet cardboard rolls and put them over cords/stuff too. In case problem persists.
