So 2 weeks ago I had a flea problem, so I had a bugman come out and spray. I had to put my kitties out on the porch during this until the spray dried. They didn't like that one bit. They kept mewing and giving me sad eyes through the glass door. They made me feel so bad.

Well...the bugman came back for the 2nd spray today (he said it would take two times) so I had to put the kitties out on the porch again. This time they liked it even less (they are still out there for about another 30 minutes). This time they are mewing and giving me sad eyes and jumping up and pawing the glass. They are making me feel so guilty.

Anyone else's pets make them feel guilty for doing things like this?

Yes. I felt guilty every time I had to go to a medical appointment leaving Soul home alone.

remind them THEY brought the fleas...& they are lucky that the cost for the flea man isn't coming out of their kibble $$$....

nothing tries to make you feel guilt like a basset hound with the ears, face etc. i remind their sorry little butts...it could be so worse...i saved them...don't like the expensive dog food..think of all the starving dogs in _____ (fill in the country of choice your parents used with starving children), don't like the toy (same thing)

& in times of serious moping or bad behavior: i break out the big guns:

the little house of friendless animals....we could make a road trip.

all in jest of course.

guilt? nah..they try but it doesn't work..they are spoiled...& life is so much better for them now than it ever was before & they are basset hounds..that look just come naturally.

I don't know if any other breed can put its owner on a guilt trip like a pug! I feel like a dog (no pun intended) everytime I leave the house with Jimbo performing his poor pitiful me routine.

One of my little pugs, a 10 lb. Missouri puppymill rescue who lived in a wire cage the first five years of her life, would pout when anything happened that didn't please her. Gumdrop had a facial expression (we called it "the evil eye") that left no doubt when she was unhappy about anything.

When I'd walk her and Rosebud together, if Rosebud walked out the back door ahead of Gummy, she'd pout! If Gumdrop walked out ahead of Rosebud, "Bud" would give her the most obvious look like why can't you behave???

Anyone's pet make them feel guilty?

If I have to leave Amy at home, it breaks my heart. Chihuahua's don't do well alone. She senses when I'm about to go out and follows me and pats my feet with her paws. Guilt trip of note.

I feel guilty when I put my shoes on, and Gus thinks he gets to come too, and he gets all excited, and runs to the door, and then I have to put him in his kennel, it breaks my heart to disappoint him. But luckily he loves his kennel, so he runs right in and gets comfy. It's not so much that he MAKES me feel guilty, it's just that I feel guilty for doing that to him. Maybe I should start putting him in his kennel first, and then get ready, that way he knows what's coming.

For the first time you can open your eyes
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind

Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life

Just open up your eyes as I lay you down tonight
Safe on the other side
No more tears to cry

I always feel bad when I leave my little min pin home. She needs her mama around at all times. =) But when I come home, you bet she's always happy to see me! Why do we need human interaction again? JK.

The absolute worst for me is when I have to leave a pet at the veterinarian's office for some kind of treatment. I don't know if the pet makes me feel guilty OR I just feel guilty - I always wonder if the pet thinks I'm abandoning it?

One of the saddest things I've ever experienced was when one of my little pugs, an 11-month old puppy, died at the veterinarian's clinic. Digit was having unbelievable seizures and our veterinarian took her home with him over a weekend because we'd been having to rush to the emergency clinic in the night and we'd been having severe winter weather, sometimes the streets were icy.

On Monday morning he called to say Digit was awake and we could come visit her. We grabbed our coats and got there within 15 minutes but she'd taken a sudden turn for the worse and died.

As long as I live it'll haunt me that she died without her family being with her...and I still cry thinking about it. It breaks my heart to think she wondered where I was?

((((Queen))))

Sometimes we have to accept that we have done all that we could do. For all you know little Digit may have appreciated that you were getting him help. I'm sure the vet was extra kind to him. I know it must be hard though, knowing the little guy was probably wanting you. (((Big Hugs)))

Love and more hugs,
Tara

The only times when I really feel guilty regarding my pets is when I'm not doing something for them that I know I should. Usually when I'm very busy or have lost the will to do much of anything. Lately it's been grooming related since everything else gets done pretty easily. The only time my kitty actively tries to make me feel bad is when I get so busy that I forget to say hi to her when passing or don't spend the time when she asks. (She went through an 'I want attention at 2 AM' phase after her brother died and it was hell weaning her off of that.) The only other thing I can think of is throwing her out at night, but if I don't then she'll wake someone up at 7 AM to let her out. Still, it tugs at me a bit.

Oh good grief can they ever make me guilty! My Lab Al can give me these heart wreching looks when I want him to do something he doesn't want to do.

The cats are masters of guilt trips too!
