Okay, I may be crazy but... I just ordered a training thingie for my cats to learn to go to the bathroom on our toilet.... Anyone ever done this before? I figured I'd give it a shot. Why not, right? My husband hates the litter boxes and I'm not really a fan either. I think our kitten will do really well, but I'm a bit concerned about the older cat. When we got a covered litter box he preferred just taking a dump in the corner to going inside the door, so maybe he won't be too enthusiastic about climbing on "the throne". Anyways, just wanted to see if anyone had tried this.

I had a kitten who learned very easily & used the loo throughout her 20-yrs. The others mostly haven't been interested, having arrived as fully grown cats with habits formed, with two exceptions: a 17-old male who learned in a week & a 12-yr old female who persisted at it & after six months had it down cold!

I never used the training thingie, but we had a cat who taught himself to use the toilet. Hubby and I both kept finding poop in the toilet and thought the other one was being a pig and not flushing. Then one morning we woke to the sound of someone peeing in the toilet. We looked at one another and wondered if we had a burgler using the bathroom. We cautiously crept around the corner to peek in the bathromm. There sat the cat on the toilet taking care of business. He shot us a look as if to say "Do you mind? I'd like a little privacy!"

I've seen it being demonstrated during a tech show on TV (not a commercial for it) but changing around all the colored rings and putting them on/off just seemed like a lot of work (and worrying about their feet being where my bottom goes :-) having to clean the seat all the time, etc.; not something I wanted to take on I didn't think.
What's the etiquette? We only have 1-1/2 baths and I can just picture the cat using it and me having to wait? I don't think so ![]()

I'd rather wait for them to finish and just do the pee pee dance for a few minutes than scooping the litter box every day!
