Thanks for sharing this! It always astounds me especially when they say things at the appropriate times. My friends have a talking parakeet as well. Says all sorts of things, "welcome home" when they come in the door; "dinner ready yet" or "there yet" on long trips (yes they travel with him), and just to name a few others. When my folks were there, he picked up on my Mom always saying, "Oh really." He is so funny and delightful to be around. My parakeets always just had specific chirps.

I have always wanted a talking bird. I had an African Grey who was great at talking, but he got so mean! I think this was because he was left alone while I went off to work each day. He became so mean, I couldn't handle him at all without being wounded, so I sold him, and the massive cage I had bought for him, for a pittance. I hope he did well in his new home where the owner was home all day.
Parakeets who can talk like this are very rare. Most likely, any budgie I'd buy would just chirp! ![]() |
