I saw this thread and figured I could gloat about my Josie Ray. I found this beautiful mutt in the middle of an intersection on a rainy day. I took her home and we bonded instantly. I even taught her how to sit in ten minutes her first day with me.
Little did I know, my Josie would help me through a really rough time very soon. At the time I had snatched her up I was in a relationship. But my current boyfriend was off at boot camp. Things were already rocky between us because he was very emotionally abusive. But with the time spent apart things looked up. He came home early from boot camp due to an injury (which was later discovered that he faked it cause he couldn't hack the military) and things were good, for a little bit. After he got home he would buy pain pills from his sister and brother in law. They were heavy into snorting pills. He would even fake knee pain to go to the ED for a fix. Things were good when he was high. But if he had the littlest thing go wrong I would pay for it. At first it was just emotional abuse, and some nights were me being kicked out of the house, the dogs we had scared to death of him would run out the door with me and in my car. We would drive around for a bit till he called wanting me home. I would go home and like routine he would want me on the couch, I would sit on a spot of the couch and let myself go into a zone, let him hell at me. He then would say get into bed. He would tell me you better stay on your side. I don't want you touching me. So I would curl in the tiniest ball possible, and grab one of my small fleece blankets and sleep like that all night. By morning, things would be back to normal. But Josie was there with me through it all. She would stick by side like glue during those times. Not let me out of her sight. She would sit with me for hours no moving, just sitting there with me. And she would even do something goofy as if saying its okay, here's a laugh for you. I gave this man a chance to seek help for his out bursts. He didn't take it. No one really knew what he was like because he is one of those outstanding citizens in the community but a monster behind closed doors. I can go on about what happened but this thread isn't for that. This thread is for pets. And I just wanted to say my Josie Ray. Is my beloved friend, and she has been there to comfort me and help take away my pain and fears. We go hiking together and we romp through water. She loves going to the farm and just running. But all I have to do is call her and she comes running with the happiest of looks on her face. She is true definition of a man's best friend. ![]() |

I have my Stella and she is my best friend, I love her more than life and she too has helped my through rough times in the past and is there for me now. I'm glad you had Josie Ray in your life back then when you needed her the most.

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but I'll take a dog any day over a diamond.
