Hey

this is my Brachypelma smithi, shes a female I paid 120 cuase she is confirmed female

im not axactly sure how long males live im guessing atleast 10-15 years cuase it takes awhile to mature

but this species , females can live over 30-35 years.

she was 2 inches when I bought her, i think in march 2013, from ken the bug guy

she molted twice and is now about 3 - 3-1/2 inches

i think shes 4th or 5th generation captive bred from kens breeder in mexico if im remembering currectly

and she emerged from her eggsac in 05 or 06 so she 7 or 8 years old

this species grows slowly and takes years and years to mature

but they are a very friendly tarantula species , ive never heard of this species ever biting someone.

She is gorgeous!

I notice in your pictures it seems like you keep them in plastic containers with no lids. Two questions... what keeps them from crawling out of the containers? The containers look small. Do they have room to get enough exercise?

i keep them in plastic critter keepers

its like a plastic aquarium, and they have lids , its just off in the picture

i keep my baby tarantulas in 16 oz. deli containers

they do have enough space to move around,

but tarantula pretty much do nothing so they don't need a lot of space

u could put them in a huge tank if u wanted to but they just wont make use of all the space
Thanks for this!

I didn't mean to say you weren't giving them enough room. I guess I was wondering how much room they need. Not much it sounds like.

Are they social critters or do they prefer to stay to themselves?

Sorry if my questions seem dumb. I know next to nothing about your kind of critters.

they are not social

u can keep tarantulas together, because one will kill the other

and if they let u hold them its only because they don't see u as a threat

they don't get any pleasure out of being held
Thanks for this!
