I ran over Al this morning! He sleeps behind or under my truck alot. I've learned to walk behind the truck and check for him before I leave in the morning. Since he's gotten old deaf and senile he won't move on his own when I start the truck. I got in a rush this morning leaving and didn't check for him. As I started to back up I felt a bump and thought WTF? Then I realized I hadn't checked for him. Pulled forward immediately and jumped out to see if it was him. I was laying on the ground crying. He was sure I'd hurt or killed him. Talk about feeling like a horrible owner!

I checked him over. Nothing seems broken. There's no obvious cuts or bleeding. He's missing some hair off one back leg. I think maybe that's what I hit.

I sat with him a long time petting him telling him how sorry I was. He seems OK at this point. He got up and walked a little bit so I know his legs and spine are OK. He ate some treats. I gave him a couple of doggy asprin to help with the pain. At this point I think he might be in better shape than I am. I was OK while dealing with him, but am a basketcase now.

You are FAR from the worst owner in the world. Accidents happen and you had no intent. As a matter of fact, you usually check for the ole' fart because of his habit of sleeping under the truck.

He loves you and is very lucky to have a foreber home with you.

I know you feel awful Liz but you aren't even in the top 10,000,000 worst owners. I'm sorry this happened for your sake and his but it was an accident and accidents and things we wish hadn't happened do happen. I bet he forgave you a lot quicker than you will

You are an awesome owner. Accidents happen. It isn't like you meant to run him over.

He is very sore today but I don't think there is anything seriously wrong. He has eaten a bit. What goes in one end comes out the other and there isn't any blood in what comes out. He is very stiff. Go figure! We must make a sight when we are walking. I walk behind him supporting his backside with my legs and hands supporting his midsection.

Thanks for your kind words everyone. I know it was an accident. I would never intentionally hurt any of my fur babies, but I was feeling horrible about myself yesterday.
