I would procrastinate beyond daily cleanup, but then it becomes smelly and messy and I procrastinate more. I am thinking about doing both morning and evening every day when there is little to clean up, but now is the end of the second day and I better go do it...

My hubby has litter detail at our house. You can imagine what a chore scooping up after 7 cats is. He keeps on it because he's made it part of his morning and bedtime routine. He said if he didn't keep to a set schedule he'd never do it but after awhile it just became automatic.
If you have the money you could try an automatic scooping litter box. I will say I've known people that have had them and none of them were very impressed with how they worked. Good luck finding a solution that works for you. |

I would probably not have any pets if I was single. But my wife loves cats. We have 10 freaking cats! Guess who's job it is cleaning the litter? Yes, yours truly and I HATE it! We have 4 litter boxes and I know we should have more with 10 freaking cats. And let's not forget the accidents or puke too. I don't clean them every day tho they should be. I do every other day and scoop when I can get away with that which is rare.
Single guys, laugh all you want but guess what? You could end up with a cat lady too and go thru this too lol Freaking cats! I did find a nice trick. Buy really cheap plastic garbage bags, they make great litter liners. |

I used to be really bad at it but one of my cats trained me. Well I would still screw up from time to time. That cat has passed. My current cat has only been in the house for two weeks. This time I sucked it up and got the liners. She only likes clay which is cheap so I justify it that way. Thankfully she is very neat. No scooping litter on to the floor. I just can't have a shag area rug any more
I picked this cat because she is 11 and wants to be the only cat just because I don't want to deal with two cat's litter. I can't imagine cleaning for 10 cats. That would be too much.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thankfully, all of the fur babies at my house use the pet exit and back yard. Dogs have a corner of the yard they use. Cats ??? Poop Scooping is left to designated person doing the mowing.

I'm not sure you can with just one litter box. We just watch to see when the box needs attention. I guess some days cats just have more output than others and some cats just "output" more in general.

I cant shout and dance enough about woodbased cat litter. Its a saviour. It smells like pine and is naturally antibacterial or boosted with antibacterial stuff (safe for cats) I have used it for years. I have used clay as a last resort way back and it cant cope right from the 1st kitty visit. Do yourselves a favour and switch over to it. Im in a househare and no way would I have anything than woodbased or my landlord may be having a word. You will save a lot of time and whiffs as you dont need to change every day. I just remove the offending bits with tissue/ scoop and flush. Oh and the white crystal stuff is even less effective.

I watched a show where the owners didnt clean out the litter tray enough so the cat started going to the loo in their bathroom sink.
Cleaning up after 1 cat is enough let alone 10.

Ok, George inspired me so today I cleaned when there was little to clean. I hope to keep going. They say that if you do something consistently for 1-2 months, it becomes a habit and no longer is painful.
I will be able to fit a third litter box, albeit small. Will buy one tomorrow. I use cat attract litter. |

I have 9 indoor cats living with me (3 extra-large litter boxes) and I clean all boxes very, very thoroughly (scooping litter) in the morning and again in the evening. There are any number of parasites that can become active after 12 hours. It is essential to clean the litter box at least once a day. Two times/day is better.

I learned about parasites and how important it is to keep the litter box clean after a coccidia outbreak among my cats. They are entirely indoors, so how they got coccidia is unknown. Supposedly it can come into a house on clothing, shoes, etc. The outbreak was a NIGHTMARE. I had a severe breakdown because of it (I'm very serious). I'm now aggressive about cleaning the cat boxes.

I wouldn't even care whether they flushed or not Still plan to find a large cage to place outside the window and put the litter boxes out there and install a cat door in a piece of plexiglass and install it in the window opening for the cats to have access to the cage. That would solve the dust and tracking problems at the very least.
