What a smart doggie...well of course I expected that!
He's 13 weeks old now...I've had him just one week. He came to me without knowing what a plush toy or treat was...and no basic commands. Now he knows 'out' and 'hurry up' (which is for telling him to do his business)... and he's been very good at not making any mistakes in the house...tonight he added a door scratch to his request to go out! He knows the ASL sign for 'sit' and sits on command. He had to learn about doors...I thought maybe he had been caught in one he was so afraid...but emailed the center lady and she said she carried him everywhere... so he has become familiar with all sorts of doors now and doing much better. He knows about these commands too, but isn't consistent with following them yet: 'off' 'down' 'place' 'hush' 'stay' 'wait' 'leave'... and water, eat, time to wake up, time for nap, easy, treat, stick, ball, toy... wow there are a few more... the real battle has become over "COME". IDK if they only used it when they were putting him into a pen/cage or to the vet and so he doesn't want to... I'm trying to not use it unless I have something he really wants (large treat, leaf, stick)... and also trying to add "here" to it so maybe it isn't totally the same. (Have to get the book out on this one?) But he's learned sooooo much...and his formal training isn't supposed to begin for another month! I can't help it, I'm with him 24/7 and it's only natural to talk to him and be consistent with him and he's picking it all up! But I gotta say... that two days ago he barked to go out for 'hurry up' and then tonight he added a door scratch... bet he'll be opening that door to go out (Like Caleb taught himself) before long! ((I need to put a pull on the handle...) ttyl drjean

He sounds like such an awesome puppy!
If you're still working on the come command, I really love this method on how to teach it: |

In no time he will relearn that 'come' is not all associated with negative things and with positive rewards it will be fine. Even coming to crate can be positive if the crate has positive rewards in it. Just be consistent with whatever you decide to choose. It sounds like y'all are off to a wonderful start and such a smart one. Congrats! Keep up the good work!

That is so wonderful that he is learning so quickly. I'm glad everything is going so well. Poodles are very intelligent dogs.
