Hi,

Lately, our black lab has been jumping the fence. We wonder if this has anything to do with our filling in the deep holes that she dug. We've tried exercising her more and keeping her inside more, but when she gets out in the yard and is a lone she jumps the fence. Any suggestions as to what to do about this and why she is jumping?

thanks,

Hmm I don't know why she is jumping, it could be because you filled in her holes. I'm not sure if its an exercise thing, some dogs just like to wander. Is there anyway to build a higher fence or block her from jumping it?

A friend supplemented her fence with a wireless fence on the inside of the actual fence to keep hers from jumping out, where they wear a collar, have warnings, and then are clearly notified when out of bounds; there is some training involved but very helpful and easy to install. Another friend actually installed an electric fence around the top and bottom of her fence (as would dig out or hop over) and all you need can be found at a farm or tractor supply store. Both methods were very effective and fairly inexpensive compared to building a new fence.

Wishing you all the best in finding a solution.

Thanks ya'll for your replies. I failed to mention that we did have an electric fence when we first got her, but have not had it on for several years and she did not jump when the electric fence was off until last week.

Is it possible she is in heat and looking for a "boyfriend"?

I would turn the electric fence back on.
Thanks for this!
