The kittens went to the vet for their last round of shots yesterday.

Mikey now weighs 5 pounds 1 1/2 ounces. He gained 2 pounds in a month! He is going to be a big boy when he grows up. They wormed him because I saw worms in his poop. Otherwise, he checked out fine. Since he was in good health he is done with the vet until it's time to neuter him.

Once again Krissy had a health problem. His ear infection either came back or never cleared up completely. The vet gave him an antibiotic injection. I doing twice daily drops in his ears. He is a good boy about the drops. It's obvious he doesn't like them, but he sits quietly while I do them. The vet said he had fluid behind his eardrum, which means his middle ear is involved. It might be that he has a polyp growing in his middle ear. If that's the case they will do surgery to remove it when they neuter him. He did not get his shots because of the infection. We go back next Friday so the vet can check him again. Oh, yeah he weighed 3 pounds 12 ounces. So he gained about a pound in one month.

It's ironic. Mikey is the younger one (he was only 2-3 weeks old when I got him) who was abandoned by his momma. You'd think he would be the one with the problems. Instead he is healthy and growing at an incredible rate. Krissy was old enough to be weaned (probably 6-7 weeks old) and appeared heaqlthy except for what I thought was an eye problem. Instead he had mange, a belly full of worms and this ongoing ear problem. No matter, I love 'em both.

It is strange how it works out sometimes with their health in what you would expect given their circumstances and where they came from. I've had shelter/rescue or street rescues that have come with no health issues and purebreds from breeders in good homes with more health issues than I can count. Just never know.

Hopefully the worms will clear up quickly for Mikey. That is really nice the vet gave Krissy an injectable antibiotic instead of oral for you to have to try to give him for his ear in addition to the drops. I remember trying to to give Jake oral antibiotics once, what a mess that was. I don't even mess around with that anymore; it is worth the cost and not worth the aggravation for either one of us otherwise just to get it done even though I hate for them to get an injection. Meanwhile I will be hoping it is just an infection and not a polyp.

Y'all are in my thoughts. ((((LL, MIkey & Krissy)))))) Speedy recoveries to all.
