I have one of those 'basic cats' . . . it's specifically an orange domestic shorthair.
He looks sort of like this. Anyway I was walking him and i hitched him to a post so i could go into a shop and buy the paper. On exiting I found that there was a youngster patting him and stroking his fur. The child had sticky fingers from his ice cream (it's still hot here). Do you like strangers touching your pet? |

I personally would rather strangers stay away from my pets unless they ask permission or checking the tags. I would probably get quite upset with the kid and tell them that they shouldn't touch things that aren't theirs without permission.
Sadly I do not have a cat but I want one. For now I just have a hamster. __________________ Feel free to visit my new blog http://www.daniellesnewblog.com I've not yet found a diamond. |

As a sidenote i tried telling the shop owner that my cat is a 'service cat' so that he would allow him into the store. The shop owner didn't know what i was talking about.
Do you think it's ethical to tell people that your cat is a service cat when he is really just an ordinary cat? |

I think whether or not someone touches your pet should be up to your pet. If he doesn't desire being petted, then by all means scold whomever is chasing him around trying to pet him.
If though he stands still and is enjoying it, where's the harm? Sure the kid may have had ice cream on his hands, but have you ever known a cat to say "thank you, no" to the offer of ice cream? It might be a little unethical to tell someone your cat is a service cat, but it's unlikely that it will work anyway. If my cat were posing as a seeing-eye cat for example, he would just watch me bounce off of stuff, giggle and mutter "I saw that" and the jig would be up. __________________ Keep your friends close, your enemies closer and your shoes closest... Yes, but then I have to wash him afterwards, and he does not enjoy that.
It happened again today. It's spring and I have given up lying that my cat is a service cat because all I get is funny looks, so I tie the cat up outside and when i come out, children are patting him. This makes me angry and jealous, I feel that they are going to steal him. |
