Hi everyone,

This is a little embarrassing.
I have had my boy for a little more than a year. He was 4 mo.'s old when I adopted him. I had him neutered at 6mo's. It was a little more complicated than expected because one of his testicles had ascended, so the vet. had to do a bit of digging to remove it. When we took him back to get the stitches removed he was given an A+ for health, and it took him a little more time to heal.

Ever since then he has had a problem w/ his private parts, I won't get into detail, but the problem is his private area seems to be very irritated, swollen and discolored. He's licking at himself constantly.

I thought it was normal for a male dog, or that it would go away, but it has gotten so bad, I can't say it's healthy.

I have been told that after a surgery in this area sometimes a stitch can be forgotten, causing improper healing and problems. I also have been told that sometimes an_l glands become abcessed and impacted causing problems.

He has an appointment on Tuesday, but I feel like all this time has passed and it's my fault if something has been wrong. I feel so guilty and neglectful for not taking him in sooner.

I'm sorry that you're feeling guilty for not recognizing his discomfort sooner.

Try to remind yourself that we aren't mind-readers (usually). And it can be awfully tough to recognize how uncomfortable a dog is until they're nearly miserable! Especially male dogs & they're privates ~ a lot have a thick habit of washing themselves really well there often.

Tuesday will be here before we know it! Gentle hugs to you and your puppy.

I agree with shez. You don't need to feel bad. I'm certainly no expert on male dog anatomy. At least you have made an appointment and the vet can tell you what's happening.
Thanks for this!

I am sorry for your poor little boys problem. It would be so much easier if they could talk to their humans only. Then with the unconditional love and trust they give us. We could understand their needs. And in my case,, never have to talk to anyone again. Because I could talk to my gizmo and i can trust him.
Thanks for this!

RE: My Chihuahua..
Oh I know exactly how you feel, they are our babies and we will do anything for them, anything. It sounds like you have got things sorted, you have made the Vets appointment and they will sort out what is required. After Hydie, (my baby)he is a Schnoodle, half Poodle half Schnauzer. He is very smart and very very loving and like you, I have no idea what I would do with out him.
I had him neutered at the same age as you had your baby He was very drowsy from the anesthetic and it was a cold night Brrrr....what was I to do I ask you ???? The only thing I could do, pop him in to bed with me. Which means he has slept on my bed nearly every night for the past......6 years...We have loved every minute of it. He has his bed & blankets
Down one sides end,, when I need a cuddle he's not too far away. As for the surgery I'm sure the Dr have had plenty of experience with this type of surgery and if you do as they advise when it time to go home you will both be fine. Please let me know how things to.. All the best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!!!! gidday2u
