My dachshund/jack Russell mix dog, Pipp, got neutered today... He looks terrible. Usually when I walk through the door after work, he comes running and squealing to great me. Today he was laying sprawled on the couch in a drug induced daze... He couldn't keep his eyes open.

He is about 5 or 6 years old. We are having to re home him because he was too attached to me. The reason that's a bad thing is because I have a service dog now and Pipp won't let him do his job. Now that Pipp can't sit with me all the time, he has been very depressed.

It breaks my heart but I think he needs to be able to bond with a new person of his own.

That is sad. Sometimes we have to make hard decisions. I'm sure this must have been a hard one for you.

Do you think he could actually adapt over time? I know that Leo has serious seperation anxiety when he's away from me but he's accepted the other dogs around even though when one of my other babies wants attention, he makes sure he's there getting his attention also. I give him a little push & tell him to take his turn & he rolls his eyes at me & gives me his side eye look...but he adapts......they usually learn to adapt with time & the depression does go away. Leo was with me from the time he was born as he was the only puppy of the litter that didn't get a new Christmas home & he rode from California to Jackson Hole Wyo on my lap & layed in bed with me at our condo when I was sick with pneumonia instead of getting to go our & skii.....so he thought he was my guardian from the very beginning. There are times his neediness of being with me drives me nuts like putting him outside....he will bark constantly while he's away from me....that drives me NUTZ but he has learned to take turns with the other dogs especially when there were a lot more as I started off having 7 when I first moved here & had to split up our babies when I left my H.....am not down to 3 eskies as my older ones have died & I took all the senior ones because I knew they would get the care they needed with me as their mommie.

Pipp does have major separation. He hates being in his kennel. One time when I got home from school he had gotten out of his kennel and tore a hole in my door so that he could get out. That was when we first got him though. He has gotten a LOT better. Now he just moves his kennel all the way in to the living room from my bedroom, but he stays in it.

I think that he will get better over it eventually and turn his love to another person.
