He's a 10 month old golden retriever who we added with our 8 year old samoyed (both male), and he escaped the barricaded kitchen quarters, again, and peed and marked all over some furniture, AGAIN, and tore up some stuff. He just graduated from beginner obedience class last night, and the day after last week's obedience class, he did the same thing. Broke out and marked everywhere he could.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to get rid of him, because a dog is an investment, but my family has had enough. It's too much work to find new ways to make sure he doesn't escape (unless we get him a new crate)...

Any tips on how to prevent marking when we're all gone?

Crate training worked wonders with my lab. Whenevr we went out/went to bed we would put him in his crate so he wasn't able to get up to any mischief!

Crate training is an excellent idea. That will be his cave and he will learn to feel safe in his crate and probably less like he has to mark his territory because he will have his own safe places

Well, he'll probably be gone soon anyway because due to sudden financial circumstances, we have to move and downsize to an apartment. Today's news just keeps getting worse.
