What really struck me about this article was that for all the breeds listed the owners had unreal expectations about the dog and it's breed. Then the poor dog suffers the consequences when it ends up in a shelter. I have little patience for irresponsible people with animals.

As the owner of two shelter dogs, I, too, feel not enough research goes into choosing a breed to get. Age plays a big part in when a dog reaches maturity, too. I think a lot of people give up to soon on a breed, not waiting for them to grow up.

Thanks for posting,

I agree. People need to read about different breeds so their expectations will be realistic.

We had 2 German Shepard's and when they died I refused to get another dog. I nursed our male Shepard when he caught parvo shortly after we had gotten him. He survived but it was a lot of hard work. He was very loyal to me and thought he was a lap dog. It took several years and a lot of research on our part before we thought about getting another dog.

It's sad how people can just let them go to a shelter. Like they were getting rid of a pair of shoes they no longer wanted
