I had to put Killer to sleep this morning. He had Lymphoma of the small intestine. He was 14 years old. He's been at the Vet's for a few days. Last night we finally got the results back from the abdominal ultrasound.

The experience was a nightmare. I brought his favorite catnip mousie and his blanket from home. I was waiting for my cat, sitting on the floor of the Vet's office. When she brought the cat in, he immediately hides under a chair dragging an IV line around. Killer didn't remember who I was. The Vet leaves the room to get the euthanasia med. She injects it into the IV line, but it does not go in the vein because the needle has been displaced.

Poor killer starts to yowl and growl. She leaves the room and comes back with paperwork and a premed. She administers the premed. Killer is very agitated and vocal. The premed does not work, but we wait for 15 minutes. She gives me the paperwork to sign while my cat is hissing and growling. She tells me she needs to get a vet tech to hold my cat so she can shave one of his back legs (They have all ready used both front legs.). She leaves the room again. They come back and have to restrain Killer by holding the scruff of his neck. He growls while the Vet injects the euthanasia med.

I am so sorry that you had to go through such a tough experience. I can't imagine how bad it feels to have to put your pet down. My brother, who rarely cries, was crying a lot when he had to put his dog down. I imagine it feels very much like losing a best friend. Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way.

I am so sorry, bluekoi. I remember how hard it was when we had to put down our family dog - old age and heart worms. I know you gave him a great life, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Damn.
That is absolutely horrible.
I have had to put 3 pets to sleep in my life. It was exactly that. TO SLEEP they went.
I am very sorry you lost your friend.
I will be happier when you write you lost a vet too.
You and Killer should not have had to go through this.

so sorry you had to put down your cat.

(((((hugs))))))

I could never put down an animal, even if I knew in my heart it was the right thing to do (I guess it's good that my plan to become a vet never actually succeeded)

Thank you all!

This is my first day back on PC since putting Killer to rest. I don't have children. My pets are my family.

It means a lot to me to be able to share my feelings here.

(((((((((((( bluekoi & Killer )))))))))))))))))

I'm very sorry for your loss bluekoi and that you both had to go through that very difficult situation at the vets. It makes me so mad that they took a very hard time and made it horrible for both you and your furbaby. It sounds very unprofessional at best and very uncaring at most.
