Oh no! I'm very sorry to hear this. I hope he heals well, and without too much pain.

Give him lots of rest; most articles say to try and restrict his movement so build a small, cozy place where he'll be happy to just chill until healed. Keep an eye on him so he doesn't fidget with the wound and keep him entertained so he doesn't get bored. One website suggested that you fill a hollow chew toy with treats - maybe a teddy he likes to chew on.

Supplement his food with the nutrients he needs for bone growth, don't let him get thirsty and take him to do his business regularly.

I hope this was helpful and I hope his recovery goes well.

I am so sorry to hear this. It is hard to watch them go through it.

When one of mine broke her leg, it was 4 months of being crated and allowed out to do her business for 5 minutes at a time only. Then she was confined to a small area and increasing walks by 5 additional minutes every week. The vet gave her a sedative to take daily to ease being crated and confined, and to help her rest. It also helped to keep her from bouncing around. This helped immensely besides the pain meds.

Sending wishes for a for healthy and speedy recovery. Also I know that the regimen can get tiring at times. Sending big hugs and patience to you too, Hang in there.

Ive had 2 dogs who have had broken legs.

Celia, my toy eskie jumped down off the bed wrong & both bones in her front leg broke. Required orthopedic surgery & a pin. Somehow she managed to bend the pin just getting up in her confined area. That was a long recovery period.

Leo got in a fight with the dog I was fostering after the accident it was in. That dog bit his leg & broke the small bone in his front leg. He managed to destroy the splint in less than 3 days..had to have a cast put on...of course after hours emergency but I assisted so it lowered the cost. He did well & got around perfectly but he is a dog after my own heart that talke with his paws so I wasforever getting smacked by his cast. 2 days before thw cast was to come off, he got it caught in my truck & pulled it off himself.

Hope your doggie heals as well as mine have. Lots of TLC & good nutrition is important.

I wish him the best. With enough comfort and love, the recovery should be better than bearable for the sweet pup.
