Many years ago my daughter took up horseback riding. It was one of the happiest times in both her and my life. I don't ride but I equate that time with so much happiness and, having depression now, happy memories are cherished.

Anyway, long story short(er), she had a horse that eventually had to be put down. She has held onto her "stuff" all this time (I did ask occasionally and she didn't want to let it go) but has since moved away so I was pretty confident that it was time to get rid of it.

So I put up an ad and was all ready to wave it goodbye and be pleased at the space it freed up. Then people started to contact me and I'm finding that I am the one who can't let go of it.

I'm hoping I'm not alone. I'm hoping to be talked into letting go, or keeping or chastisement or sympathy or....something (?)

Is something wrong with me?

I can no longer ride due to injury, and have my equipment and things from that time that I cannot let go. I can understand the connection it brings to those memories. It makes me feel better to be near them and have them around. Perhaps I will get to the point I can let them go. I know I should as they are dust collectors primarily now and an investment that the money I could actually use if I were to sell; however they are the connection to the best times of my life and it makes perfect sense to me. I can truly understand.

Have you considered taking it up? Is this a possibility? This may be why too I hang on to it as sometimes I consider getting back into it. (????)

I know that I too am considering the fact if I decide to let them go, that I will always have the memories whether or not I have the gear. You will too. Please keep this in mind.

Sending the biggest and gentlest of hugs your way.

I kinda think it's really hard to let go because a signal touch could bring back a rush of memories just like a small could.

If you could keep one thing then get rid of the rest or donate it.
