My Lucky Dog

You made me laugh until I cried
You helped me see life's brighter side
You gave me love, you gave me hope
You gave me courage so I could cope

I watched you run and play
I saw you grow each day
I gave you shelter, kept you warm
I fed you, pet you, kept you from harm

So happy were we
Just as it was meant to be
There's nothing I wouldn't have done
To keep you here, having your fun

I still don't know what happened or why
I only know I had to say goodbye
You grew too sick, you see
No way to heal and keep you with me

I promised you I'd help you see it through
I hope you know I helped you with all I can do
I sent you somewhere in hopes you will live
And though I don't know what life will give

I don't know if we will see each other again
I don't know if you'll ever run and play again
I don't know if you'll ever know I'll always love you
I hope you know these things are true:

You deserve all the happiness life can bring
You deserve love and the best of all things
You protected and loved me and now I will for you
You may not understand but I love you through and through
