I just got a phone call from the person who boards her horse with me. Some horse rescue organization e-mailed her a warning about protecting the horses' eyes during the eclipse. They are putting bras on the horses' heads so the cups cover their eyes to protect them during the eclipse! WTF!?!?!?! The poor critters have got to look insanely silly!

Okay, first off horses are not going to be looking directly at the sun, eclipse or not. Second, what good would the cloth of a bra do for protection? Any of you planning to use a bra to observe the eclipse?!?! If so, I want to see a picture!
Thanks for this!

Ha ha. That made me get a mental image of farmers and ranchers showing up at department stores across the continent buying out the stock of bras and covering all the horses and cows in the fields with bras. Then I googled horses and the solar eclipse but I didn't find any pictures. I did find a ridiculous article saying that if you have cats to close the curtains draw the blinds and keep your cats away from the Windows! I've never seen my cat or any cat look directly at the sun. I've never seen any animal look directly at the sun.

Peg, I thought the same thing. If people are worried just keep 'em in the barn.

Nammu, I am now envisioning all by big, burly neighboring ranchers buying up all the bras in the stores!

Who is going to protect the eyes of all the wild critters???? This is a national emergency! Every animal lover in the country needs to stock up on bras and go start covering the eyes of our wild animal friends. Maybe we can use training bras for smaller animals?

I found a picture!

eclipse and horses OMG!

Sigh. Poor horses.

My vet's office sent out an email saying that animals will be fine during the eclipse, as they do not look directly at the sun anyway.
They must have been getting a billion phone calls from people concerned about this!

I think the bras would bother the horses more than the eclipse.

My cats were asleep so they missed it.

I read that there have not been any studies towards animals and viewing the eclipse. They recommended if you could bring them in to do so. I guess that is why I kept seeing this in my facebook feed...
