Please don't judge me. I may be way out of line, maybe this is just one major gripe I have about dogs that I'm sure has nothing to do with being a good dog owner. I do want a dog, but this is one thing that drives me off the wall that is such a tiny little thing that even when my cat Evy does that it ticks me off.
I hate, hate, hate when dogs lick their lips. OH GOD. Maybe you can relate? I really don't want to be judged on my ability to get a dog based on this. I'm pet sitting at Evy's foster mom's house and she has three big dogs who all can't stop licking their lips. They're all anxious. And I can't stand it. It's like nails on a chalkboard and I want to scream. Is this something I can get over to have a dog? Before the fire, I'd kick Evy off the bed at night whenever she'd lick herself, and she's a cat. It's what animals do and it's normal, but it just drives me nuts when they do it. Please don't judge me, but it's such a horrendous sound. |

If you want to get a dog just to keep you busy but hate when dogs lick their lips, why don't you do something even more fun? For example help people or volunteer. Believe me, it's more fun. For example, you can go and volunteer in your city's soup kitchen once a week. it will give you more spiritual satisfaction than having a dog about which you are unsure.

Are you pms'ing? I would become ULTRA sensitive to sounds that a week later didnt bother me at all. Like i used to sit by a guy who i think had a mild form of Tourrette's and listened to headphones. He would sing and bop and tic along to the music, but during my pms week, it would drive me nuts. The rest of the time, i would sing along with him. I would make other people crazy with my talking out loud to myself. Btw, I am also known for yelling at people for breathing too loud, so i am totally on your side.

I believe the root of it began with my brother. Hed smack his lips all night long too growing up. I honestly could not marry someone who would smack their lips in their sleep.

My mother used to yell at my dad for sucking his teeth. Idk, like to get food particles stuck between out? She claimed all his brothers did it.
