Charlie and I had to go to the emergency vet on Friday due to him having another UTI. At this point I think he needs a frequent flyer card and I should just have to call and have them prescribe him the meds without even seeing him. Before last month we hadn't been to the vet for a UTI for 9 months. The longest interval since his PU surgery. (For those who don't know that is the removal of the end of his urethra because he was blocked with crystals.) This leaves him more susceptible for UTIs because there is no easy way for the bacteria to be kept out. But back to the recent vet visit. The person at the front desk was trying to ask my if I was sure that it was a UTI. Could it not be a blockage? I told her no it was probably not a blockage because he already had a PU surgery. There was a new vet (not one I've worked with before, apparently over the last 9 months they have got some new vets as I think I had pretty much worked with all the ones before that as everyone knew him and loved him). The vet asked me if I was sure that it was Charlie who was sick and not my other cat. Yes I was sure it was Charlie and not my other cat that was sick. I know my cats. He had even already saw Charlie's previous records (which I'm sure is a phone book by now). I miss my old vets (IE the ones who have worked with him there before) and know Charlie. But I did get out of there in 2 hours this time, so that was good.

Hopefully we can get Charlie's recurrent UTIs under control again so I don't have to keep taking him back. I think part of the problem is that we have a new dog in my apartment building and it is causing him to be anxious because it is barking a lot.

But hopefully Charlie is better soon.

Have you tried many home remedies? I googled one.

Adding apple cider vinegar to cat food
Mix 1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar with 1 teaspoon of chicken broth (I've heard tuna juice also works)
Add the mixture to the cat's wet food.
Repeat this treatment at every feeding until the cat's symptoms improve (within a few days).

Hope he gets better. Did the vets mention anything about his food, or is it a genetic issue?
Thanks for this!

He had PU surgery where they took off the end of his urethra due to being blocked. Due to this there is no protection from bacteria so it is easy for him to get UTIs and when he is anxious he licks his PU site.
