I need some help please.

I have a ten-year-old female Chihuahua mix named Precious, that is totally terrified of thunderstorms. Her fear is so severe that she has panic attacks. So far, we have tried the Thundershirt, however, it doesn't seem to work for her. We also live in a trailer house.

I am on a very fixed income and cannot afford to take her to a vet for this issue.

Can any one give me any advice on what I can possibly do to help her please?

We also have a dog who is scared of thunder. We've also tried the Thundershirt idea & it didn't really help much in our case either. We have some medication we got from our veterinarian. But the problem is you have to give it to the dog a couple of hours or so before the storm. And consequently, for the most part, by the time we realize our pooch is going to need the medication, it's too late for it to do much good.

We will typically play music or have the TV on during thunderstorms. The other thing that occurs to me is to have some yummy treats you can give Precious during the storms. Over time she may even come to associate thunderstorms with yummy treats & start to look forward to them rather than to fear them. Beyond that, if there's someone you can visit with Precious who has a basement, perhaps you could take her down there & that might help. These are the sorts of things that occur to me. Good luck!

My BG is terrified of all loud noises. Melatonin helps him. I get chewable tablets at PetSupermarket. It is reasonably inexpensive, under $10 per bag of "treats." It does take awhile to go into effect so it helps to give them in advance if you can.

My chihuahua is scared of sounds too .. almost every loud sound - even if my phone makes certain beeping noises.

I cuddle her, sing to her, pet her, whisper "I love you .. it will be alright", show her what it was (if possible), sometimes allow her to smell some lavender essential oil (if she wants to - that one is safe for dogs n helps anxiety), also put a small blanket over her - like a little child .. to her blankets are a comfort as much as a thing for warmth n chihuahuas love them!
