Last night we had to put down our 12 year old mixed blonde lab, Max. My parents had been conversing with the vet over the past six weeks, and our dog showed all the signs that the vet explained would be his time to go. I wasn't there when they put him down, but luckily I had a T appointment that day so I was able to have time to grieve with my T. My parents and I were all in tears at the dinner table. I spent the evening cleaning, detailing and organizing my car and my room while listening to music as my way of coping. There were many emotions flowing through me. I called a very dear friend who is a dog lover and cried on the phone with her and she comforted me.

Max was the Forrest Gump of dogs, but he brought so much joy and comfort to everyone he met. The house seems so much quieter and emptier with him gone. It is so strange to think he's been in my life for almost half my life. We are anticipating my cat feeling in a funk when she realizes he's gone. My cat absolutely adored Max and loved to cuddle with him (even though he was so scared of her). I'll miss him.

RIP Max

am so sorry for your loss. the hardest part of loving a pet is that the leave so soon. i'm sure max enjoyed a wonderful life with your family. know he is now resting easy, free of pain.

for some reason, the loss of a pet reaches a space inside of us that is deeper then almost any other type of loss. it seems almost easier to mourn and weep for a lost pet then people. our souls are reached by the joy and love that they bring into our lives.

you won't lose max. he will always be with you...always. in spirit. in memory. in your soul.

welcome home max. be thou at rest.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know Max was a special dog, having lived through the fire with you. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that you gave him a loving home and life.
