I let them eat as long as my cat doesn't freak out. If she starts growling I shoo them away. I wonder who they are. In the past couple of years a couple that definitely looked feral would come in. I have an orange one coming in who is well groomed and definitely doesn't look feral. I have seen a black one who is a bit scruffy. I said "hi guy' to him last week and he ran, but last night I didn't say anything and he ate some food. I wonder how much this happened when I was away all night before the pandemic.

I got a door that recognizes my cat's chip but she hates it and wouldn't use it.

That's not too surprising. I think my cats would run them off, though. They're very territorial!

AceRimmer,

Does your cat feel threatened by the newcomers?

The well groomed one is probably someone's pet who is two timing their primary family. The black sounds stray/feral.

Bless you for feeding them.
Thanks for this!

Not really. She seems interested in the orange one. One night I got home late and my cat was sleeping in one of my 3 cat beds and orange kitty was in another. If I tough she felt threatened I would have to try again with the door - I got a bigger one that she might like better.

Tonight she growled at orange kitty so I shooed her out. Orange kitty wasn't even fully grown last year when she started coming in. She looks a bit like an Abyssinian - she has a long face. But that trait has gotten less pronounced as she aged. I really like her. I like all cats. Actually I like all animals.

I love all animals too. I had two cats growing up and they both lived 25 years. Both vets had not known of any cat that had lived that long.

Is your cat vaccinated for everything? Hate to be Debbie Downer, but they have had cases of Covid virus in cats and dogs. Very rare so far, but what if its just that they are not testing them. The pug dog that got covid habitually licked his owners dinner plates.
If you find it interesting to see these visiting cats, fine, but there must be a way to get your kitty to use the chip. Find a kitty forum online, YouTube, whatever. I have had cats most of my life, so I know how headstrong they can be. Hate to be Debbie Downer, but who knows what other rodent/s might come in to chow down on her food. We had possums, once in So Cal and once in Chicago IL, but without a cat door for easy access. Some wild animals have rabies.
I see you are a genuine animal lover with a soft and giving heart. Hugs!
