"Dog Tales" & "Cat Tales" have been shown here in the U.S. on the PBS program "Nature". One fascinating thing that was mentioned in "Dog Tales" is that there are researchers in Russia who have been able to breed "human-friendly" foxes. And, in the process, these foxes have taken on some of the physical characteristics of dogs as well.
