It's going to be a long week until his surgery. He's developed edema around the tumor. At least I hope it's edema. It's fluid in any case. Have to admit I'm scared.

I am really sorry about Beeg's on going wars. It really is sad. I am glad that Beeg is living his best doggy life. I will keep you both in my thoughts.

I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s understandable you’re worried, let’s hope it isn’t serious.

I didn't call the vet since the edema started. Next Tuesday is her first opening for surgery. I don't know that calling her would accomplish anything.

hmm, I have to take Dobby (cat) in for his follow up Friday for his allergic reaction. I'll mention the edema then.

We are in our summer thunderstorm pattern. Beeg is terrified of thunder. He glues himself to me during storms. I end up feeling like a rat because I get annoyed at him for following me everywhere. I feel like a meany when I lose my patience with him.

Aww 🥰 poor Beeg. But it’s understandable that you get short with him. At least I understand it, also get why you feel like a louse but it is human nature

Maybe she’ll give Beeg some diuretics to take before the surgery? Talking to her Friday would be a good idea.

I talked to the vet today about the swelling around the tumor. She prescribed a steroid and Benadryl. Mast cells are associated with histamine. I'm so tired right now I don't remember the connections. Any case the Benadryl and steroid should help control the swelling. She also told me to give him the generic for Pepcid in case the other meds upset his stomach.

I'm going to order him a Thundershirt. He has to wear something to protect the wound after surgery. The Thundershirt will have the double advantage of protecting the wound and helping calm him about the storms.

Oh, poor Beeg. A thunder shirt sounds like an excellent idea.

Surgery is tomorrow. I'll be glad to have it over. The vet said I can use a recovery suit to protect the incision rather than the %#@&&$!!! cone. I ordered him a Thundershirt and two recovery suits. The suits came today so he can wear one home tomorrow. They look like doggie pajamas. I'll see if I can get a pic and post it.

Mixed news from the vet after surgery. The tumor was more extensive than she thought. It was into muscle tissue. She is sending it to the lab to find out what our next step is.
They are keeping him over night. The vet wants to be able to give him injectable pain meds later today.
I am really bummed out the tumor was more extensive than we thought. Am really upset they need to keep him overnight.

I called the vet's office and asked if I could come by and see him. They let me. We spent about 15 minutes sitting on the floor together with me blubbering on him. I feel better after seeing and snuggling him.

The new incision is HUGE. It goes from way up on his ribcage all the way to the middle of his sternum. I told him it gives him character.

Ran into the vet while I was there. She talked some about the surgery. It'll be 5-7 business days before she gets the lab results. We'll figure out what's next after she gets the results.

You’ve got a nice vet, but then most vets are nice. I’m glad you got to spend some time with him. Wow, that incision sounds wicked.

Beeg is home. Seems to be doing okay, he's still loaded with painkillers though. I'm so glad to have him home. I really kissed the Big Goof last night.

The not so great news is that the tumor was stage 2. The last one was stage 1. I'm telling myself to wait for lab results and not freak out. Having mixed results with not freaking.

I'm glad Beeg is home. I'm sorry about it being stage two. I would have a hard time not freaking out too. Try to stay calm though so Beeg doesn't freak out. How are the recovery suits working out for him?
