I am so sorry that the wound is infected. That is bad news. I hope that the medications they give him will sort this out. It is odd when our furbabies aren't there to greet us. You are doing your best.

The Big Guy is home. He's sound asleep. He got his antibiotics and pain meds not long after we got home. They seem to have knocked him out.
He made a beeline to me when they brought him out. I cuddled him and told him how much I missed him. The vet said he absolutely HAS to wear the cone until the stitches are out. She also wants him in a surgerical recovery suit. They look like a onesie for dogs. I just spent over an hour shopping for the damned things online. Problem is most of the have a zipper down the back. I'm afraid the zipper will rub on the incision. Then I started looking at dog pj's. Found tons of them with no zipper, plus they are open around the dog's privates so you don't have to rearrange things so the dog can potty. No more leaving him on his cable. He absolutely has to be hand walked on a leash. He is not going to be happy about that. He hates going poop on a leash. Ah well.... So my boy is home recovering. His wardrobe is going to increase. At least the pj's will get used in the future. He can wear them to stay warm. Last edited by lizardlady; Jan 26, 2021 at 09:33 PM.. |

Oh, poor guy. Growing up I had a dog that hated having to poop in front of people. She preferred to go into a cornfield to do her business. So I know how the poor guy feels. He’ll look so cute in his pjs tho!

Oh, I’ll look for that, it will be so cute. He’s already adorable. In pjs he’ll be downright irresistible

I'm on the verge of a meltdown.
When I got home this afternoon I discovered the horse with the injured eye injured the other eye. I am staying up to medicate him every two hours. Beeg is laying in his bed crying. He doesn't seem to be in pain I think he wants me to cuddle him. He stops crying if I do. I cannot spend the night sitting with him between trips to the barn. The whining is on my last nerve! As I said in another thread, someone please just shoot me and end this! |

Wow, that is all so horrid. How did the horse manage to injure his other eye? Will the pj's be as secure on Beeg? He simply cannot ruin the last job. Poor you. Sitting with you until the healing has happened.

I called the vet's office to ask about the pj's. They are going to call me back today.
The horse bruised his eyeball. Who ever heard of bruising your eye. Heaven only knows how he did it. |

Lab results are back. BG's growth was a mast cell tumor, meaning cancer. The vet said it doesn't look like it spread. That's good. Treatment at this point is to watch him and check for any new lumps/bumps. If any more bumps show up we'll talk treatment options then.
Of course, soon as I got off the phone I googled "mast cell tumor dog." Found enough info to scare myself silly. The Vetmed site agrees with my vet's recommendation, surgery followed by keeping an eye on the pooch. We also talked about pj's for him. She wants him wearing something snug that won't twist around if he rolls and to protect him from scratching at it. We agreed the t-shirts I've been using should work, so no new pj's for him. I'll see if I can get a pic of him in a shirt. So the news ain't great, but not as bad as it could be. |

He actually doesn't mind wearing "clothes". He will ask me to put his sweater or blanket on when he is cold.

It's good news that the cancer doesnt seem to have spread. Watch and wait is all you can do. I hope things are settling emotionally for you.
One smart dog there asking for clothes when he is cold. I wonder if he will start to prefer certain colors or maybe even become a fashionista and want things to be coordinated. Bless you both. |

Possum, Beeg is very much a guy. I don't see him turning into a fashionista. He does have sweaters he prefers though. Maybe he is a "guynista"?

Four more days til the stitches come out and the cone of shame comes off! I don't know which of us will be happier about no more cone. Beeg hates the thing, but has sort of gotten used to it. Me on the other hand... I have bruises all over my legs from him ramming the damn thing into me. There's a burn on the back of one leg because he pulled the iron down and it bounced off my leg on the way to the floor. He knocked my dinner off the table onto the floor twice! He whacked me in the side of the head with the cone. Our heads are at the same level if I sit and he stands. Yeh, I'll be glad to see the end of the cone.
On the plus side, all the stitches stayed in the second time around. He's healed up nicely. |
