Feeding stray cats could get you fired at this Florida university

I have mixed feelings about this issue. I think the cats need to be cared for, though. Maybe catch and take them to a shelter (no kill, I hope). But they're probably feral.

What do you all think?

My first thought was of the uni I attended in Florida that was over run with squirrels. The little buggers were downright aggressive. Feeding cats had nothing to do with them beings on campus.

As for the idiot that got scratched by a racoon, what the heck were they doing getting that close to a coon in the first place?

This is Florida where wildlife lives everywhere. Fer gawd's sake there are coyote living in major cities. Not feeding the cats is not going to solve the problem. The wildlife will still be on campus. They will cause more problems looking for food.

IMHO, the best solution would be to institute a trap and release program for the cats and allow people to keep feeding them.

This is college! Teach the students and staff to stay out of the way of wildlife and feed on a schedule, not leave food out all night. Geez. And trap and neuter.

Animal activists blast Florida university over cat feeding ban

Here is a follow up story. If the cats were abandoned by students go after the students not the cats. I have very strong feelings about people who abandon animals. I promise not to climb on that soapbox now though.

Another thought, if some/all of the cats were abandoned by students then they are not truly feral. They were pets at some point.

True. It would be good to find the people -friendly cats to see about getting them adopted.
