We survived by evacuating. I could not get home for a week after the first one. The power was out for longer than that. I would get off work, drive to my mother's so I could fill buckets with water. Then drive home, dump the water for the horses and hurry back to Mom's because we were under a curfew.
A lot of people lots everything. A bunch of people ended up with PTSD or PTSD symptoms before it was all over. I was "lucky" and didn't take a direct hit from any of the five, but wind and rain damaged my home badly enough it had to be replaced. Just typing this brings back some of the anxiety. It's been 15 years and you can still see damage in some areas. Sorry, I seem to have hijacked the thread.
