She was really my Mom's dog but she was the family dog too. We got her 12 years ago when my Dad had cancer and just after we had lost our other dog. She was a puppy then.

This dog was the most loving dog. She really loved to give kisses and she excitedly waited for me every day to come home from work. She would jump up (she was only 8 lbs) on my leg and jump up and down until she got attention (didn't take me long) and also affection.

Her name was Emma Louise. She was a Toy Poodle. She was tan colored. She was supposed to be apricot but she was more tan.

She was lovely. About a week ago she started having trouble urinating. I thought she probably had a bladder infection or a kidney infection or a UTI. We took her to the vet, and yes UTI, but also, maybe something else too. They took out a half of cup of urine from her bladder and sent us home with two medications for her while they sorted out the tests.

Last night and this morning I could tell she was trying to urinate but couldn't. My parents carted her back to the vet. I am at work. My Dad calls me and tells me that they put Emma down. She had a big tumor in her bladder. I didn't get to say goodbye. I'm mad at my parents because they didn't call me and have me come over to the vets to say goodbye. I'm so glad I got a picture of her last night. Snuggling up to my Mom's foot.

Now I was close to this dog. I would let her eat off the same spoon as me. We shared eggs, ice cream, cereal, all sorts of things. She was really a loving, wonderful dog.

I told my parents that I know of a Poodle Rescue if and when we are ready for another dog. We have always had poodles because of allergies. But I would rather rescue than buy one. And depending on how much vet bills they have racked up at the rescue, even rescuing is as expensive as buying sometimes. I don't think we will be ready right away. But when we are I hope we can look into the rescue. I have rescued my cats. My parents had bought Emma from a not that good of a breeder. The breeder fed her hot dogs! And Pizza! Goodness! So I am going to try to steer them towards rescuing this time, although it sort of feels like we did rescue Emma because the breeder probably would have used her to breed if we didn't get her.

I'm really sad.

Kit

I'm so sorry to hear this, Kit. I'm sure Emma knows that you love her.

Sending lots of hugs.

I am sorry you were unable to say goodbye. Know she is not suffering and she had a loving, wonderful life - a life that only you and your family could give her.
