I thought I started a thread about taking Sean to the vet, but can't find it.
Any case I took Sean to the vet a few weeks ago. He needed a rabies booster and I just wanted her to check him out. He got a clean bill of health! We talked about him peeing all over the house and fighting with Mikey. My guess was that he was stressed from going from only kitty to one of six. I told her all the things I've done to try to reduce stress for all the cats. She did some research and suggested we put Sean and Mikey on Prozac. It's a cream I rub inside their ears once a day. It seems to be helping! I'm not finding pee all over the house and no battles royale between the two of them. They will still growl at each other and exchange death glares, but it doesn't progress into fighting. Fingers crossed this is going to work. Mikey is my boy. Sean also holds a special spot in my heart. I was reaching the point I was afraid I was going to have to remove him. I'm really hoping this works. A funny story.... I thought Sean's name was simple to pronounce. It's the same as the human name (eg Shawn) When the pharmacy called about the script they pronounced it See-an! |

Oh, liz! That is so wonderful - I have my x fingers crossed x for you!
Many, many years ago my cousin had a cat that had a problem of neurotically biting at and licking her inner thighs to the point at which her fur was rubbed off. The vet prescribed Prozac. Well, it worked. As I recall, kitty was on the Prozac for a year and when the vet took her off the biting/licking issue had resolved. My cat Sadie is the smallest of my 5 and is the frequent target of the 3 large males (everybody spayed/neutered, doesn't matter). The guys chase her, tease her, stalk her...she's anxious all the time from it, except when she falls into a deep sleep. Her vet did end prescribing Prozac to lessen Sadie's anxiety (and hoping that her calmer state would deter the teasing from the others). It just didn't work for Sadie. The Prozac flattened her personality so much, she was like a limp version of herself - and it didn't help the situation, anyway. But I have heard many stories of Prozac being very successfully used for cat issues. I hope yours is one of those successes! __________________ |

Maybe instead of giving Sadie Prozac give it to the boys?
Reassuring to hear Prozac helped your cousin's kitty. The vet did say she did not need to stay on it permanently. |

Giving it to the boys is an idea. There is one in particular, Jack, he's extremely shy and anxious - yet he teases Sadie - might really benefit from Prozac.
Let me know how it goes! __________________ |

Will do.
Jack might be having fear aggression. Some times they will go after another cat because they are afraid. Or have you tried the Feliway multicat defused? It releases a pheromone to help the cats bond. It helps with my crew. There are also collars that release lavender, pheromones and another herb that help calm they. The collars helped with mine. |
