I'll have to look around for something like that. She's so weird. Doesn't chase balls, doesn't like swimming, got brain freeze once from doggie ice cream and now won't eat it...lol I have been giving her probiotic treats, and she's getting her appetite back more and more, so she definitely is on the mend.
Really appreciate all this info and the support. 😊 |

There are appetite stimulants for dogs. We were given one to try with our elderly dog when she wasn't eating much. It had some extra vitamins/minerals too. Maybe you could look into that to support her if she still needs to gain weight back.
I'm glad she is turning the corner. |

Michael, years ago a vet tech told my plain cooked chicken would help my cat's appetite. It was true. I wonder if the same is true for dogs?

Plain boiled chicken was one of the only things our dog wanted to eat towards the end.

I did try the chicken thing with unsalted broth, but the broth was no-go. I didn't have chicken on hand, either, and while it shames me to say, didn't have the money to get it. So, yeah, it's been a bit taxing to watch helplessly.
If I thought I could afford it, I'd have her cloned. lmao She's such a perfect little doggo and I can't even contemplate having to go through her eventual passing. There's no real way to prepare for something like that, is there? |

Michael, I believe the only way to prepare for losing a loved one (human or critter) is to treat each day as if it might be the last. Tell, and show, them that you love them every single day.

Oh, sorry I came into this thread late. This was about the time I lost my doggie JoGI to old age & my barn kitty (BK) to a coyote & my daughters Soulmate doggie was struggling for his life.
One thing I have learned with dogs is that giving a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree usually helps with any digestion issues. Also, when they lose weight, a high protein diet is good UNLESS they have kidney issues. The last 4 1/2 years I have been caregiver to 4 elderly doggies & my very sick horse I lost over a year ago. I have to admit I am exhausted & need a break from care giving but for me it is all part of the committment to my fur babies lives. Vet care is expensive. Just finished paying the vet bill for my horse. I do like Care Credit because they will give 6 - 12 months without interest to pay them off. I am helping my daughter with her vet bill for her fur baby she lost the day after Thanksgiving. The equine hospital gave Care Credit the ok for 12 months to pay. Same amount for the ER vet for my daughter only ok'ed for 6 months. My daughter had medical insurance on her baby so I am covering the rest. Vet costs are high.....& the care required by us can be intense & time consuming too. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. Thank you all for your comments and advice. Definitely keeping pumping puree on hand. lol I try to limit her human food to simple stuff I know is okay like the occasional piece of popcorn or fruit. She loves mangos and apples that I skin for her. Lately, she's been so clingy, she just wants to snuggle up to me all the time. lmao She's my little lap dog. And that's great advice about treasuring every day with them. I spoil her with attention.

I mix the spoon full of pumpkin in with their food. Most doggies like it. (Make sure NOT the canned pumpkin pie filling)
