My mom has kind of agreed to let me get a dog in the summer if I go back to work and everything goes well with that. I agreed to adopt a small dog from a shelter and not a puppy. I was just wondering what dog breeds/mixes would be good with cats and what breeds wouldn't. I have 2 cats that have been around a dog before and they have been fine. I was thinking of something like a dachsund mix or a basset hound mix.
Does anyone have any suggestions? We had a hound mix that loved my sisters cats and then my cat after she moved out. When he died my cat got into such a depression over it. He would bat his ears and play with his tail and the dog was so tolerant of the cat. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

MD, most shelters have signs on the animals cages that say if they get along with other pets. I would look for ones that say the dog gets along with cats rather than going by breed. Some shelters also give you a chance to let the animals meet before you adopt. I would try that.

You should also be able to go to Petfinder.com and find dogs that are available for adoption in your area. Generally the rescue organizations that post there say, in the write-ups, how well a particular dog gets along with cats. Here's a link just in case you're not familiar:

The rescues normally test dogs with other animals, they can help you choose the right dog, regardless of breed
