I saw this story and was upset with the adults involved. It's a public setting. The dog, a pattie, is off leash. It is sitting up looking at someone off camera.. A toddler age kid comes over and wacks the dog with a water bottle. Kid then goes and hits an adult with the bottle. Comes back and keeps wacking the poor dog who eventually turns and snaps at the kid. If you watch the dog he gives plenty of signs he is getting irritated before he snaps.
The owner of the dog should not have had him off leash in a crowded public area. He should have been firmer with the kid when the kid hit the dog. He said "no" both times, but I believe he could have been sterner. Mainly, WHERE THE *HECK* WERE THE LITTLE BRAT'S PARENTAL UNITS????? You know if the dog actually bit the kid people would have been screaming about "dangerous pit bulls." Sorry but the kid IS old enough to be taught you don’t hit anything with a water bottle. Negligence on the parents part, and where were they? If that had been me I would have taken the water bottle away from the kid after he came back. And yelled for his parents to come control the brat.

I'd be perturbed, too, at the kid, if it were my dog. Once my dog did bite a boy who was picking on her--so the parents were negligent. And a pit bull has the rep of being mean if trained that way.

Nammu, good point about taking the bottle away from the kid.
Beeg is part pit bull. I keep him away from kids and other pets if we are away from home. I believe he is more likely to love someone to death than bite them, but am not going to take the chance. He's got pit bull jaws of steel when he clamps down. If he joins me when I'm chatting with the neighbors I keep him on a short leash. They have two young kids ( 2 & 6).He is a big old wiggly goof. I'm afraid he'll knock one of them down. If they want to pet him I make him sit next to me. Last edited by lizardlady; Jan 16, 2023 at 10:44 PM.. |
