Anyone with some experience? Tips? I have a community of crows in the neighborhood but they seem to be happy enough about a block away. Hear them daily but rarely see them. Makes me think someone down the street is already giving them a good deal. Would like a few to be semi-regular visitors at least.

@mar dhea I always like birds. I find seagulls and crows can be real bullies so I do not encourage them by feeding. Also they chase away the small birds and they do not really have a song as I think of it. @CANDC

I agree with you on gulls. The typical urban gull is surely the king of bullying. I do like crows though. They can be noisy but they're apparently pretty intelligent. I'll welcome them if they give me a chance.

Crows are extremely intelligent and sometimes eerily intuitive. I love to see seagulls at the ocean, they are endemic to that environment. The sound of a gull as the tide crashes...nothing like it.
There are so many birds chirping today! __________________ |

I don't exactly know why I like crows. Just the fact they're so social and intelligent are a couple of reasons. They have a nice paint job too [basic black is always popular isn't it?] and they've been so iconic throughout the ages. Immortallized in tale and song etc. Maybe another reason is that I grew up hearing them. When I moved to where I live now I didn't expect crows to be part of the neighborhood. Their racket may be a racket to some but it reminds me of growing up when things were good. That may actually be the main reason right there.
Que Sera Sera: Thank you very much for that. I've found it and will watch tomorrow evening. |

My neighbor seems to attract them by leaving their garbage bin so full the garbage spills out.

We have lots of crows because they like our chicken's food. They seem to esepcially like ground corn.

I'm considering using meat scraps as well. Chicken because it's cheap and sliced thin so in the warmer temperatures it'll just dry out rather than go bad. I'm sure wild crows wouldn't care much anyway. They're known for lunching on some pretty questionable roadside stuff. Currently waiting for nicer weather to start putting food out. We're getting some pretty awful February weather. I did just buy a big plastic tub to use as a bird bath. That won't be put out until April or so.
