GOT another dog!

This is Hazel. Most likely going to change that.

Went back to the shelter yesterday and the pupper I looked at Monday had been adopted earlier in the day. That tells me she was not the right one.

I walked through the entire shelter again. Saw Hazel almost immediately. Saw a couple of others I thought I might be interested in and asked to see each of them. Knew almost immediately Hazel was the one. The shelter has what they call a Pawdition, as in paw-audition. It's a two week trial period to see if it is a good match. I can call at any time during the two weeks to tell them I want to keep her. I suspect I will be making that call soon.

On to Hazel....

She's a 7 year old Staffordshire terrier. She's got some training, knows some commands, walks on a leash, is housebroken. She gets along with the cats (YES!). Very sweet tempered. She's a lady.

Oh liz, she is beautiful! And she sounds smart, esp if she likes cats! Seriously, her aspect seems pleasant, aware, and upbeat. Happy for you both!

Oh, excellent!! I knew you would know when you met! Kismet. It’s wonderful they have that two week policy though. I’m glad you picked an older dog. They deserve it!

Thanks everyone.

Correction to original description. She was identfied as an American Staffordshire (Am-staff) by the shelter. Frankly, she's what I call a ketchup dog, as in Hienz 57, a mutt..

She's currently loose in the house. She's hoovering up any crumbs and loose cat food she can find. That's fine with me. She needs to gain weight. Poor thing is very thin and looks like she must have been infested with fleas when she got to the shelter. Her hair is thin in spots and her skin is dry and flakey. Both are easy to solve.

Nammu, it's funny mentioned her age. I knew I did not want a puppy. Didn't want to have to deal with puppy training/behavior. Was shooting for a young adult. So much for plans! This was her second time through the shelter. I believe her age, breeding and the fact she'd been at the shelter a while were all working against. It might mean I'll have less time with her than a younger dog, but I'm okay with that. You were right. The right pupper was at the shelter waiting for me.

I still miss Beeg. There's a huge hole in my heart that is going to take time to heal. Am going let myself grieve as I need to. I think the new girl will help with the healing.

No longer crating her. Last night she hopped on the bed three times. Not sure if I am going to allow that. Each time she got up I made her get down. She got down when told.

She got a bath last night. She was not happy about it, but behaved herself.

She obviously lived in a home where she was cared for and they spent time training her. It would be interesting to know how she ended up being picked up as a stray. It seems she was on her own for awhile before getting picked up. She's really thin and looks like she was eaten up by fleas. She's got bald spots along her back.

Like I said before I still miss Beeg. There's a hole in my heart missing him. I find I'm falling in love with this little lady.

We have taken in strays; there are a lot in this country. We always wonder what there story is and how they ended up on the street.

There was this guy that came to us, Mr. Jack, who was abandoned at my husband's work. It was pretty clear he was well cared for at some point. He was great at the vet and loved being groomed. We wonder if maybe the owner died and the family left him on the street.

Sorry to hear she's underweight and has fleas. But, I'm sure under your care, she will improve quickly.

That’s what I always think, that the owner died. It’s the more pleasant option than people abandoning their pets. One thing that makes it so hard for me to find an apartment is I have a 19 yr old cat. No way am I abandoning him.

So love my love bug terrier poodle mix rescue. However, he pretends to be dumb ignoring the Monty, Come command. The world is his oyster!
The cat does NOT like him. Sounds like yours will do well-this is so great!
