Thought I'd keep kind of a journal about life with the new pupper.
You might have guessed from the subject line I decided to keep her name she came with. I kept trying to come up with something different with no luck. She answers to it and it just feels right. I posted that I am really missing Beeg tonight. He left a HUGE hole in my heart. She's helping me heal. |

When I saw the name I first thought of the funny 60’s sitcom about a maid. Then I saw your name and thought of the picture you posted. 😂 I’ll bet your hazel doesn’t clean and cook! Aww I think hazel is a good name.
I’m sorry you’re missing BG so much today. Grief is like that, just rising unexpectedly like that. __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. Well, today was the deadline to return Hazel from her pawdition if I did not want to keep her. She's still here and I have no intention of giving her up.
She has an appointment with my vet tomorrow. I don't think the vet will find any problems. Just want to get her checked out. Not much progress on her learning to stay off the bed and sofa. Given a chance she still gets on both. She'll look like she knows she's wrong when I catch her, but still gets on them. *sigh* We'll just keep working on it. She is catching on that jumping on people is not okay. She only does it when she's excited now, used to be all the time. She does NOT chase the neighbors animals when they come over to visit. Very proud of her for that. She gets lots of pets a treats when she ignores them. We are working on recall. She had no idea what to do at first. She's starting to catch on now. I mentioned above I still miss BG. He left a huge hole in my heart. Hazel is helping that heal. Nammu, you were right. She was calling me from the shelter. |

Miss Hazel had her trip to the vet. Vet wants to remove the spot/lump below her right eye. Otherwise she's in good health.
Several of the techs who'd been involved with Beeg came in to meet her. They all gushed about how cute and sweet she is. I am definitely feeling like a proud momma. |

Hazel hit another milestone today. I've started letting her out in the yard by herself. I had to either put BG on a leash or a cable. If I left him in the yard on his own he would escape and chase the neighbor's critters. Was doing the same with Hazel not knowing how she would be. I'm so proud of her! She wandered the yard exploring. Came like a lady when I called her to come in the house.

Oh, how good of her. I bet her previous home had a yard too.

LOL, I bragged too soon. There is a piece of skirting missing off my house. This afternoon Hazel went under the house. She was having a grand old time running around like a maniac. She would not come out when I wanted/needed a break from pressure washing the house. I was hot, dirty and sweaty. REALLY wanted to go inside for a bit. Down on hands and knees calling her, offering treats. No way, no how was she coming out. I gave up and went inside. Barely got in the door when she came barreling around the corner of the house. I was not a happy camper, but still praised her and handed out treats for coming to me.

Haha, she’s testing you. I was on bored panda looking at all these pictures of crying toddlers! They were told no they couldn’t do or eat something dangerous. Something about hazels situation reminded me of that even though she wasn’t crying. 😂

She was playing hide and go seek with you? My neighbors dog used to play that with me. I had to legit give up before he would come out!

She was definitely playing. At one point she came to the gap in the skirting and had that wild, silly look they can get when playing. Then she took off again.
She played in the yard, and under the house, so much she wore herself out. She spent the night flopped on her side snoring her head off. |

Meant to update this more often when I originally posted.
I'm in love with her. I still miss Beeg something fierce, but have fallen in love with her. Have discovered she is very trainable. She is very eager to please. We are working on stay, down and recall. She's making good progress on all three. We are also working on her not jumping on people. I hate it. I don't like muddy pawprints all over my clothes. Also don't like being knocked on my butt by overenthusiasm. Add to that it can scare other people. She is doing better, but forgets when she is excited. Can't remember if I said this before. The day I adopted her, as we walked through the parking lot, I wondered how I was going to get her in the truck. No worries. As soon as I opened the door she jumped in. Matter of fact if I leave the truck door open she jumps in and waits. We are still working on her now getting on the bed of sofa. She no longer gets on if I'm watching, but still gets on if I'm not. If I catch her on one or the other she slinks down to the floor with a guilty puppy expression. She's getting along with the cats. She's actually kind of buried up with Miette. She's afraid of Sean because he is prone to smacking her in the face. It seems to neutral territory with the others. Fellow critter folks, you will understand this. As much as we love all our furbabies there are special ones. Hazel is one of the special ones for me. She's burrowed deep into my heart. |

After she snuck into bed with me 3 or 4 tomes I gave in and let her sleep with me.
I am head over heels in love with her. She was a very, very good girl last week. I normally keep her on her leash outside the yard. One afternoon last week I let her out of the yard, no leash, while I went to turn the horses out. I got distracted and she wandered off. I freaked out when I couldn't see her. She came running from the other side of the barn when I called her. Made a big ole fuss over her and handed out treats. Nammu, thanks again for suggesting I go to the shelter because someone there was calling me. I am convinced it was Hazel. It makes my heart happy she is here. |

Hazel with her 4th of July bandana.
(Side note - going through my album to get this pic I found old shots of BG. Hurt to see those) |
