Dogs like to watch dogs on TV, new study by UW researcher finds - WPR

Sounds pretty accurate. Helmut goes crazy when he sees other dogs on TV. He goes up to the shelving unit the TV is on and puts his paws on it. He seems to know when it's a dog that looks like him because he gets the most excited when he sees one. Sometimes we have to change the channel because he comes close to knocking the TV over.

Sports with balls are another one for him. He likes sports where the ball is larger, like soccer and rugby, especially rugby. He has four toy balls shaped like rugby balls and he always goes to get one if there's rugby on. He's so goofy.

Brünhilde, on the other hand has strange TV tastes. She does like other dogs somewhat. But random things often get her attention.

Interesting study Rechu. Thanks for posting. Hazel does not watch TV, but gets excited if she hears a dog bark on TV.

I forgot, Helmut also has his TV dislikes. For example, flashing lights really set him off. He can't see the Eiffel Tower lit up. He starts barking at the TV and then his buddy follows suit. Then, once, he barked at a TV character's shirt that had large pink circles on it.

I love watching youtube videos where dogs (or cats!) are watching tv. Whether it's other animals or The Grinch or horror movies, it is always fascinating to me.

My cat and dog seem obvious to animal sounds from TV. There's a commercial where a cat meows. At first I think it's Caroline, but no......Caroline is just sitting around , not the least bit concerned about the cat on TV.

Could it be because I have the TV on so loud? ( I avoid my hearing aids.)
