No, Amigo is a nice name for a pet, you should be able to get away with it, heh. I don't speak Spanish at all, but I do believe the word 'amigo' is a masculine term and "amiga" is the feminine. You may already know that. But like I say, I don't know how that would all apply to naming a pet, though...
