Why do dogs fall asleep faster than humans?

Is it the obvious.....they are different species..or something else?

Our self centered lives may them very tired...

Canines usually sleep 12 - 16 hours...they have higher metabolisms...and in the wild they had to make sure they were rested for the incredible demands upon them when the hunt commenced..and to later save energy..for the next one..

IMHO.

Do you think they do?

My dog stays awake all night "guarding" me... just like my previous dog did... as soon as I hit the bed and turn off the light/tv whatever... he wakes...

ok, kinda freaky. my friend and i were driving back from the woods with our dogs today and just saying that we wish we could fall asleep as easily as our dogs. yes, they were out running around for about 2 hours but the minute they got in the car and had a treat they were out. sometimes i think they actually look forward to monday's when we leave them alone to sleep for longer.
