Took puppy for a short walk in the snow this evening. When we got back he was shivering a bit so I put him on my bed to warm up. Don't ask me why I thought putting him on my bed would warm him up. Anyway I went to make some coffee and when I went back in the bedroom puppy was half laying down and shaking... scared the tar out of me and I dropped the water for the coffee and ran to puppy...
I picked him up and he was shaking.. I laid him back down and he fell over and was still shaking. I have no idea what he did or what happened.. I thought he somehow might have broken his back leg or something.. So i try putting him in his crate but he just fell over and shook.. So I pick him up and hold him... called my son... cuz I don't have a car or drive... I held puppy for an hour...till my son got here... Well, when puppy saw my son he jumped out of my arms and ran to my son, wagging his tail and immediately tried to hump my son's leg. My son laughed and gave me one of those " o mom.. there isn't anything wrong with puppy, you "overreacted" as usual....I thought for sure puppy had broken a back leg or maybe even his back because puppy jumps so much...I was panic stricken.. Don't deal with crisis well that is for sure... Well good thing is puppy is ok..he is back to his normal peppy lil self.. wipes brow..... takes deep breath..... Never a dull moment around here. I dunno if it is me or just "stuff happens".. Just wish stuff would happen elsewhere.. I am too old for all this excitement.. |

He was probably hypothermic, and holding him probably warmed him up. Puppies can act pretty extreme when they are hurt, sick, or scared though. Years ago, my kids were playing outside with our puppy, and she ran out into the street and they said they saw a car run over her leg. The puppy wouldn't walk on that leg at all, and was yelping and just lying down in one spot. We didn't have money, but couldn't let her suffer, so I took her to the vet, expecting to have to put her down. I carried her in and put her on the exam table, and the vet looked at her leg and felt it and told me that he thought my dog was a wimp. There was nothing wrong with her at all. When we put her on the floor she got up and walked. That dog is ten years old now, and still thinks she is a puppy.
Our labrador has sensitive feet. If we walk him, and he gets the tiniest sticker or sliver in one of his toes, he lies down and refuses to move until he is satisfied that we got it out. No carrying him - he weighs almost 100 pounds. They are precious. Just like kids a lot of the time. __________________ “We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of.” – John H. thanks ((((((free2beme))))) umm not too sure how lucky he is to have me because tomorrow I am scheduling an appointment to get him fixed. He tries to hump my leg all day and pees everywhere and is super active. He is a jumper too.. Never knew a pug could jump as high as he does. He even dances on his hind legs and turns circles. He really is cute but is truely a handful... Anyway, I am hoping after he is fixed he will calm down a bit...I do have to admit, he does make me laugh a lot..

Hi Rapunzel... You know I was kind of thinking too that maybe he was hypothermic. He was shivering a bit when we came inside. We were only outside no more than l0 or maybe l5 mins. Even had his hoodie coat on. But then pugs cannot be in the extreme heat or cold and it is in the 30s here..Thank God I did not stay out longer. Along with you, am thinking this is what happened. I did not hear him jump on anything or hear him fall. Was just so weird.
Oh my.. lol.. the vet said your dog is a wimp.. that is cute. And a lab with sensitive feet.. just precious those dogs we have...They are like kids sometimes.. Or is it we love them as our kids and spoil them.. I know puppy is spoiled..Is my fault too.. |

RF, I hope it was just hypothermia, and not seizure. It sounds like you need to be watchful of this, since dogs can have seizures from other health issues.
