My ferrets are rebelling, digging out their food dish. I feed them Natural Gold that costs sbout as much at $67 a 20 pound bag. First time I have had this happen in 18 years of owning ferrets.

Darn ferrets!

We used to have friends that had a ferret, first time I'd seen one in person. How are they 'digging up their food dish"? and who do you consult when it is about ferrets anyway?

Just curious, since they are such cute little pets.

Hope they get over their 'rebellion' soon, it seems really expensive to feed the critters.

This one isn't covered too well. Two out of five are responsible for digging food out of their dish. I will have to take them off free feeding and have the dish nearly empty when I do feed them. A good reference book is the Ferrets for Dummies. They have good books for most pets.

One of my ferrets does that also. There isn't really anything you can do. I just leave the food on the ground of the cage and don't give them their daily good until their food on the ground is pretty much gone. Hope this helps some. My ferrets are rebels when it comes to digging up carpeting.

Hmmm I wonder exactly why they are doing it? It sounds like they have never done it before. Could they be bored of their food, anxious about something, fighting over dishes?

Sorry i dont know much about ferrets hon. We do have a vet here that specializes in such things, i could call and ask if you like and get back to you?

As a ferret owner and a member at a ferrets forum this problem is often talked about and the solution we have all come up with is to use the lock crocks so the ferret cannot lean over the food dish and dig the food out... these crocks also help stop our ferrets from moving their food dish all over the cage.
