Hi all, I've know for a while that I eat to suppress uncomfortable emotions. Trouble has been that I've been holding in too many uncomfortable emotions for years, so all my efforts to fix the eating have just ended in me feeling even worse.

Now I've been seeing a counsellor for 6 months, and learned some better tools for dealing with the baggage. So I'm here in hopes of some good advice and friendly support in putting aside the habit of eating to relieve feelings other than hunger.

I do aim to reduce my weight, and my counsellor is helping me to set small goals, without using them as a stick to beat myself.

Hope to get to know you!

Welcome, badblackrat. I am in a similar position right now. I have finally started taking the steps I need to take to try a few wobbly strides without the crutches. I too have been using these forums for support, as this has been a lifelong problem for me and I need all the support I can get. I hope you find what you need here and feel free to PM me if you need to vent or want to talk. I usually check in at least once a day.

hi glad to meet you. I am not a regular here. Although I am going to try to come more often. Congrats on your decision to work on the roots of the ED. I think it is a great thing you have been doing. The weight loss is just the mainfestation of the deeper stuff, as you well know. So it is the deeper work that really makes the difference.
