I have this habit where whenever I go to the store, I feel like I need to buy food. So I'll end up spending a whole bunch of money on junk food, whatever looks good. Even if I've given myself a limit as to how much money I want to spend, I'll always go over it, because if a food looks good, I NEED to buy it.
But then I'll get home and not eat it. I've had food sit on my bedside table until it goes bad and I have to throw it away. Other times I'll try to force myself to eat the food so it doesn't go to waste, but that never works because I get emotional and then I can't eat anything at all. Usually I eventually eat most of it, but it takes me long enough that by the time I've finished off one shopping trip's food, I'll have gotten more, so I always have food there. I think that for the most part, I eat fairly healthily, but this buying junk food is getting to be a problem. I'm spending too much money on food, and having it there all the time is making me feel stressed. Does this sound like some unusual form of binge eating? |

I'm not sure what is happening. You might find it helpful to meet with a therapist to see if the two of you can get at the root of this behavior.

Hi there-
I have done that as well. It feels like a compulsion to obtain something new, to fill you in a way? I know it's frustrating to feel like you're spending money un-purposefully. I've wondered if it's just a symptom of addictive personalities perhaps? Good luck to you and hope it gets better! |
