Hi. I gained 70lbs on Abilify and mainly seroquel. For over a year I've been walking 26 miles a week, and my shorts from last summer are too freaking small %÷#&

So I told my pdoc the health risks outweigh mental benefits. Which is Imo why many people (called noncompliant) quit the psych meds. The side effects are with me 24/7 while the bipolar is inconvenient a few times a year.

I'm on medicare and can't pay $1k a month. When I did pay that for abilify I did gain just not nearly as rapid. So, he put me on Thorazine. So far, It's Working Great and I'm not starving for carbs & sugar.

well that is good to hear....I had gained a lot too when trying different meds...finally settled on Topamax and Haldol and lost much of the weight I had gained. now taking Geodon instead of the Haldol and it is keeping me steady as well. good luck to you.

Hello dear ((((thickntired)))) Oh really don't worry or feel alone regarding the weight gain whilst on various meds, it seems to happen and that's it. It's a case of working out if the weight gain is worse than the symptoms of the disorder. I take Seroquel and Depokote and these two do make weight gain. However, the gain happened over a year and now I've spent about the same time to get rid of it. I'm not quite down to where I was and can't eat any less than I do now, so I'll wait and see what happens. I send you lots of HUGS and even more LOVES. XXXXXXXXXX

Yes, in fact I asked for Geodon but it was $200+ on medicare. When I asked my pdoc about a script for Topamax he said the average weight loss was 4 lbs and the side effects can make it hard to focus or remember. I bet Geodon will be even better.
