I started Vyvanse three weeks ago at 10mg (lowest dose -- 70mg is highest). Vyvanse is an amphetamine prescribed primarily for treatment of ADHD and some eating disorders.
Vyvanse is a US Schedule II controlled substance. A doctors prescription is required for Schedule || drugs and can not be renewed. To guage the addiction (or street value) of this medicine, other Schedule || meds include Ritalin, Adderall (both for ADHD), narcotics such as Codeine, Morphine, Hydrocodone (synthseized Codeine), Oxycodone, along with Cocaine and Fentanyl. Vyvanse is a "brand medication" meaning there is likely no generic form. I was able to obtain a $20 per month discount coupon from the manufacturer for the first 12 months. I am being treated for Adult ADHD (I am not hyperactive so call it ADD). I have tried many other ADD therapies including Adderall, Ritalin, Nuvigil, Strattera, Namendra XR (successfully trialled on kids but not adult for ADHD). Nothing worked. Here is my experience with Vyvanse (prescribed by my Psychiatrist at its lowest dosage) over the last three weeks. 1. No need for coffee during the day. No naps. 2. Subtle improvements in concentration and focus (yeah!) 3. Weight dropped from 10 pounds in three weeks. 4. My migraine headaches are down 50%. 5. Migraine headaches are less intense. 6. Libido down. Overall I am very happy with this list and look forward to continuing using Vyvanse. What I haven’t learned is whether Vyvanse is how addictive it is and at what does. I would like to be able to pick a day now and then (when I know I am behind on my sleep) and just want to: 1. Take a nap mid day or 2. Chill at the beach 3. In for outpatient surgery and want to sleep it off 4. Forget to take the med and am afraid of withdrawal so I wonder if taking Vyvanse after noon will allow me to sleep that night. I came to the forum to see what others are experiencing with Vyvanse — mostly about addiction/withdrawal implications. [updated to remove specific weight reference] |

Addiction and dependence are different concepts. Vyvanse is not an addictive medication. It doesn't cause cravings. It may cause dependence, though. Aka, withdrawal symptoms.

Vyvanse is Highly abused on the street. My doctor wants to prescribe it to me for BED and I am a bit hesitant to take it because I work with people with addictions and know how it can be abused. However, I also want to know how well it works.
