Stepped on the scale this morning and I couldn't believe what I saw.

I gained weight.

I swear, last week, I was not that heavy How did that happen?!

I got weighed at the doctor's last week and they told me that my BMI was high and that I needed to EXERCISE.

So, I just found out that I'm fat.

How do you feel about your body right now?

Ooooh I don't know. I normally let my jeans and T-shirts tell me if I've put on weight, as I'm the type to get a bit obsessed with the scale.le. I also have to exercise as I've picked up some weight that I can tell from my clothes. I pretty much know I have to get on it sooner rather than later just in case it's my antipsychotic giving me a gift that keeps on giving...

The psychiatric nurses I saw last week suggested I take up martial arts or boxing (which is funny, I've been talking about doing something like that for about 6 months, but have to fit it in with my shift work, so I've been procrastinating finding a place, AND there's my shoulder is still a bit hurt still from Christmas). I did go for a long walk the other day, and I enjoyed it. I guess I just hate the idea of gyms.

Sorry to have to close the thread but in the Eating Disorder forum there is a guideline about not mentioning numbers associated with weight. Welcome to the Eating Disorders forum!

The Community Support Team will try to find a way to reopen the thread by editing if possible but the premise of the post seems to be against guidelines. Will advise participants by personal message when we have resolved.

The Community Support Team approved edits on the posts in this thread so I am reopening the thread but please respect the guideline of the Eating Disorder Forum: Welcome to the Eating Disorders forum!

Basically avoid mentioning specific numbers like how much you weigh, how much you want to lose, what your BMI number is and that will be a big help.

Thanks for your understanding. Please PM me if questions.

I had this professor once that said he would go for a run every evening. He said that what motivated him to keep running while he ran was he knew there was a fat man chasing him. :-)

I'm above average weight or larger and I feel alright about myself today. Having a spare tire doesn't define who I am or what I am today. Feeling good about myself.

I hate my self and my body. My weight fluctuates a lot. I binge eat when I'm angry, sad, stressed or hurt. Then I get tired of doing that, then diet and exercise, lose weight and feel better. Then something triggers me and the cycle starts over.

This is a constant struggle for me. It's really affecting my life.

My gastroenterologist says I need a gastric bypass for bile reflux, which would also be helpful for my weight. I even meet the weight requirements for one (BMI). I am surprised! I didn't think I was THAT big--so I understand your frustration. My metabolism rate is nil. I do not binge and try not to overeat, but it's still too much. Sigh.

I consider myself to be hefty. Last week I went to buy a packet of cigarettes and the women looked at me strange and said "is she pregnant" and I looked down at my belly and yes it hangs down like I was.. that made me feel fat... but I never WAS fat only in the last 5yrs I have gained so much. I was a smaller before I started to gain weight(the doctor put me on medication for bulimia) which made me gain so much. Now I'm on a strict diet and want to loose some weight

I’m fat but don’t care too much. My body earned those extra pounds by surviving trauma. They are part of the story of my life. If anyone wants to judge me for them, it’s an easy way for me to tell they aren’t appropriate people to be in my life.

I used to be extremely athletic doing judo 3x a week. After meds for bipolar and 15 years I am now large. My liver doctor wants me to lose weight but all ive done is gained 8 pounds! I check in with him next month and feel ashamed. I wish Id never stopped judo and never heard the word "bipolar"!

BMI is BS.
It has been proven over and over again to not be an accurate representation of a person's overall health and actual weight issue.
Why BMI is inaccurate and misleading

I remember when I realized I was fat. I started exercising and cutting back on my food intake. I did a spreadsheet to keep up with everything. Low and behold the weight came right back as soon as I get comfortable thinking I have it under control. That was years ago when the weight first came on I have fluctuated since then but most of the time I have been fat. I'm thinking I should try therapy for it because I think I can't miss a meal and I have to clean my plate...these are just an example of some of the issues I'm dealing with my weight.

BMI is meant to be a tool to assess weight across a population level, rather than individual. A lot of very fit (muscular) people probably have high BMIs cos muscle weighs more than fat. So, I don’t go by BMI scores.
At the moment I feel ok about my weight - I have lost a fair amount in the last couple of years or so, which makes me feel more comfortable in myself. I’ve never seen myself as “fat” even when I was heavier, though. I just have one of “those” builds where a few extra pounds really show (curse my gene pool lol).
